Leopard Gecko Care and Popular Varieties

Leopard geckos are highly popular reptile pets. They have a small body size, typically ranging from 18 to 25 centimeters in length. Characterized by their unique appearance with patterns resembling a leopard’s spots, their colors are diverse, including various combinations of yellow, orange, brown, and more. There are many varieties of leopard geckos, and here are some common ones:
Common variety: With a gray-brown base color and a large number of black spots from head to tail, the adult pattern becomes banded after selective breeding.

High Yellow variety: A product of selective breeding from common leopard geckos, with a yellow body color, some individuals carry the carrot tail gene.

Orange variety: With an orange body color, this is the result of selective breeding, and the higher the quality, the deeper and brighter the color.

Albino variety: Individuals lacking melanin, there are three types of genes – Trump Albino, Bell Albino, and Rainwater Albino, and their eye color is not red.

Eclipse variety: Eyes can be solid black, snake eyes, random partial black, or almost normal, with some individuals having the same eyes and others having different eyes.

Snow variety: Includes Super Snow and Partial Blizzard, with the all-black eyes of Super Snow being the manifestation of the super form of the dominant snow gene.

Additionally, there are other varieties such as Red Diamond, Blue Amber Eye, etc. For their care, a suitable-sized terrarium is needed, with substrate options like reptile-specific sand or coconut soil. The daytime temperature should be maintained around 28 to 32 degrees Celsius, slightly lower at night. Heating equipment such as heat mats is required, with relative humidity kept between 40% and 60%, which can be adjusted by misting. Feed them insects like crickets and mealworms, ensuring the food size is appropriate and providing clean water. It is important to set up multiple hiding spots to give them a sense of security.
