The Chinese Stone Dragon Lizard is a reptile belonging to the Scincidae family and the genus Scincidae, also known as the Stone Dragon Lizard or Four-legged Snake. It has a robust body with a gray-olive green back, characterized by five typical light longitudinal stripes. The middle stripe on the back does not fork at the head, and the side stripes are connected by intermittent spots. Male adults measure 110-114 millimeters in length and weigh approximately 40 grams, while female adults measure 102-118 millimeters in length and weigh about 36 grams.
If you wish to keep Chinese Stone Dragon Lizards, it is necessary to provide them with a suitable living environment. A box-like structure should be lined with soil, planted with some weeds, and adorned with a few rocks and tiles. The tiles can provide resting and shaded areas for the lizards.
The Chinese Stone Dragon Lizard has a varied diet, consuming small insects and plant roots. To ensure balanced nutrition, a complete range of food should be prepared, with grasshoppers being the primary insect food, meeting the dietary needs of the lizards while also promoting physical fitness. Do not dig a pond in the breeding area; instead, place a water trough for the lizards to drink from, preventing water pollution. The water should be sun-dried before use to remove impurities and increase temperature.
The temperature in the breeding area should be kept at a constant level, around room temperature, generally controlled between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius. Low temperatures can cause the lizards to hibernate, affecting their condition. A protective net should be added to the top of the box structure to prevent the lizards from climbing out and to prevent other objects from intruding.
Ensure regular exposure to sunlight daily to allow the lizards to obtain heat. Pay attention to the hygiene of the breeding environment, and the bedding material should be moderate, frequently cleaned, and replaced to prevent mites. Also, it is not recommended to frequently handle the Chinese Stone Dragon Lizard, as it may cause harm and requires a long time to establish mutual trust.
